Shanklin & Sandown

A warm, friendly welcome awaits Visitors and Societies alike at Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club on the Isle of Wight.

A charming layout presented in a condition comparable to some of the UK’s most prestigious golfing venues, this James Braid course, opened in 1900 and located on the Isle of Wight, certainly offers something that little bit different to the average golfing day out. The only county championship golf course on the Island, Shanklin & Sandown is fast becoming one of the most reputable courses in the wider region of the South of England among golfers of all abilities. Renowned for its natural beauty, the course is spectacular in setting and in the challenges it presents. Priding itself on its reputation as one of the most hospitable clubs in the country, there couldn’t be a more relaxing environment to enjoy your golf.

Although not long at just over 6000 yards, the tight tree lined fairways and protected greens, set in a beautiful heathland setting, require good course management to enable you to return successful scores. We pride ourselves on providing golfers of all abilities, individual and uniquely challenging golf holes that guarantee to provide an exceptional challenge for high and low handicappers alike.

The course is maintained to a very high standard and our greens are regularly hand mowed, providing an excellent putting surface. There are fantastic views of the surrounding downs at every turn, providing a truly beautiful aesthetic backdrop to the course. The free draining heathland soil ensures it is playable throughout the year providing, without doubt, an outstanding place to play golf in any season.

Shanklin & Sandown is ranked 7th in Hampshire by the Top 100 Golf Courses of the World.  We have also been rated as one of the Britain’s best 100 Courses under £50 (National Club Golfer - February 2012).

Besides playing the course, visitors can enjoy full use of the modern Clubhouse, the 19th hole, our catering facilities and our elevated balcony overlooking the par 3 ninth hole.  Visit our well stocked Pro Shop where we provide a wide range of golf clothing and equipment, combined with expert tuition by our golf team headed by our Resident PGA Professional.

In June 2012, we were proud to have hosted the Hampshire County Championships , the 11th time the Championships have been held at Shanklin & Sandown. Only two other Hampshire courses have hosted the Championships more often.  In 2013 we also hosted another very prestigious event, the Senior Women's English Stroke Play Championship.
